The tortoise always wins

Updated: Apr 3, 2022

I'm about to hit you with an age-old story. But explain it in the context of modern life. In one of my last ever 1-1 sessions in December 2021, one of my clients asked to see a photo of me before I started training (approx 3 years prior). We were talking about how hard it is to build muscle. He said, "Yeah but it's okay for people like you, you can build muscle dead easily. I can't" So I obviously challenged him on his bullshit. "What are you talking about?" The conversation continued and I basically explained to him that it was extremely fucking hard for me too. And showed him a picture of how skinny I used to be He was blown away. ...that I could go from a skinny little muppet to somebody with a respectable physique. And it turned into a teachable moment. A lesson that I want to deliver to you today. The tortoise always wins. Remember the tale of the hare and the tortoise? The hare sprinted off at the start, had a kip, finished last? Got overtaken by the slow but consistent pace of the tortoise? Well that tale, is one of my favourite tales. It has a deep meaning that gives children a huge life lesson without them even knowing it, that's why it's so great. I have a decent physique today, because of what I did yesterday. What I did over the last 3 years. All of the seemingly insignificant stuff, done over and over again at a consistent pace, becomes pretty fucking significant over the course of 3 years. And people who used to be in WELL BETTER shape than me, now compliment me on my gains. I've overtaken them. I'm the tortoise. My clients are the same... Family members they haven't seen so often over the last few years since covid... BLOWN AWAY at the changes in their physiques. Just yesterday morning I got a message from a client because their Nan is worried that they're on steroids! (They're not, so that's a huge win lol). And it's this quiet consistency, working away in the darkness whilst everyone else is out partying, chilling, resting, that makes the difference. Anybody can execute to a high standard. It takes a certain type of person to execute to a high standard for years on end. Can you commit to putting in the work for the long run? If you can, maybe it's time to start taking things seriously. You'd be pretty surprised at what you could achieve if you just showed some consistency. Will you be the hare? Or the tortoise? Maybe I can help you reach your potential? If you think I can, hit the button below and we can have a chat.
